Anti valentines day

Anyone that knows me saw this coming. If you don't know me...thanks for reading and I hope this doesn't run you off for good.

I hate valentine's day. I hate the reds and pinks and whites. I hate the heart shaped balloons and the stupid singing cards. I hate all the flowers and the love sick grins that people wear all day. I think it's cheesy for people to propose or get married on valentines day. And most of all, I hate how I get left out every year!

Oh, bite me. I know it's my own fault cause I won't date just anyone. I am picky...though I am sure many single girls say that. I spend my valentine's day pining after a guy I can't have. I spend it secretly watching sappy love stories (it's the only romance I see in my life) and dreaming about the day when I actually look forward to the sappy love day.

Truth is, I don't actually hate the day as much as I make it out to be. I think that it can be a waste of money and if you love someone you should tell them all year round, not just one day a year. You can also give your loved one gifts throughout the year for no reason other than you love them. Do we really need a day to remind us that we should tell someone we love them?

In school we are forced to hand out valentine cards to all our classmates. I'm sure parents hate having to buy those stupid cards. And sometimes kids get left out because kids are mean. I had people that "forgot" my card a few times. I was the weird girl that no one wanted to give a card to. How sad is that?

So, we spend money on cards that will be thrown away, balloons that will deflate and flowers that will wilt. Oh, and chocolate that will make us fat.

But....yes, there is a but.

Some things that people do on valentines day is actually cute and nice. I think it's cute when a guy finally gets the nerve to ask out his crush on valentines day. The stuffed animals are cute when they are not something the guy just picked up cause it had a heart on it. It's nice when people actually think about the person and not just pick a card and go with it. Thoughtful gifts are the best.

With that said, I am still the bitter ol' single girl that hates anything romantic and lovey dovey...unless I am in my room in the dark where no one can see my walls crack.

Much Love
Heather

P.S. After going to an awesome wedding tonight I think my opinions may have changed just a bit. Valentines day is kind of awesome. But it sucks being single.
